Five years ago, we placed Baxter in a wonderful home with a senior citizen who loved him dearly. Unfortunately, she has become quite ill and could no longer care for him. Cocker Rescue provides a lifetime safety net for every dog we place. So we were happy to take Baxter back and place him in a loving foster home. He such a dear, sweet dog and we knew he would adjust well to a new home environment. However, when we brought Baxter to our vet for a thorough exam we were told he is in congestive heart failure and the prognosis is guarded. Baxter will live out the rest of his life in permanent care with his foster mom and dad.

Baxter has had a complete diagnostic workup including blood workup, two EKGs and an ultrasound. He is now on a daily regimen of five different medications as well as a low salt diet. All of us have fallen in love with this happy, easy-going boy and we’re hopeful that we can give him years more of the good life. He’ll need another ultrasound in two months and will continue on the expensive medication regimen.

The total cost to date (12/6/07) is $984.60.
