Brandi - UNDER FOSTER CARE - AVAILABLE SOON!

Brandi - Buff Female

Brandi - DOB is 3/21/98

UPDATE:

Brandi is 9 years old and looking for an adult only home that can appreciate her love of baths and sleeping in late!  Brandi went for years in a home without appropriate medical care and when she came to CSRNE, her medical needs were many.  She had bilateral ear ablations done, complete testing for allergies which showed she was allergic to molds, weeds and cats, was started on a special diet and began allergy injections.

Today, her foster mom reports that Brandi is a changed girl!  It has been a tough road for Brandi but now her allergies are under control with a duck & potato diet and she receives her allergy injections like a pro.  The injections are only needed every 2 weeks and her dermatologist is thrilled with her progress.

Brandi is a loving girl looking for an adult home to love her for who she is!  She will return that love ten fold.  She is a quiet girl that likes to go for walks, is housebroken and would be an ideal companion for someone who understands her needs.  She is now just waiting for her special someone to come along.

Brandi is a high allergy dog that needs a shot every other week and antihistamines twice a day. She is not a good dog to be placed in a home with any children as she can get a bit snappy because she can get uncomfortable with her allergies. Brandi requires weekly baths during the allergy season and every 2 weeks in the winter.

Brandi is not a dog that can stay out for too long.  She needs to be a house dog. She will play, but prefers to spend her time in her bed snoozing.  She absolutely loves baths!  She will lie in the tub then turn over on her back for a good rubdown. Brandi will never be 100% healthy so maintenance is a must with her. She also needs daily over-the-counter eye drops twice a day for her dry eye.

She has had bilateral ear ablation surgery. Brandi also has to be on special food...potato rabbit or potato and duck or homemade. She's a good girl, just has it rough sometimes.

Brandi is only 7 years old and had suffered from many years as the owners were unable to care for her. Not only were her medical needs not addressed but poor little Brandi was kept locked in a laundry room! These pictures cannot begin to give the full effect of Brandi's suffering as she is tearing at herself without relief. She has difficulty walking because the pads on her feet are open and raw. CSRNE immediately brought her to one of our veterinarians and Brandi is now on medication to help relieve some of the pain and start to get the infections under control but she has a long road ahead of her. In spite of her pain, she is a sweet, loving cocker that just wants to be with you.

Brandi will need ear ablations in both ears, a cherry eye repair, diagnostic tests for what appears at this time to be untreated allergies that have left her raw and hairless and numerous medications to get the infections in her ears, eyes and skin under control. The veterinarian wants her back in 7 days to recheck her and we will need to schedule the ear ablations immediately. Brandi is in a great deal of pain and there is much to be done. The initial estimate of costs for her upcoming surgery and care is $3500. and we have 7-10 days to raise these funds so that her treatment and recovery can begin.

Please help Brandi to regain a quality of life so that she can go on to find her forever home with someone who will give her the love and care that she so justly deserves

Donations can be made via PayPal or by check mailed to the address at the bottom of the page. Time is of the essence as Brandi needs our help now!

UPDATE: Brandi has been seen by a specialist and it was determined that due to her current medical issues, she will need to be treated for an extended period of time before she will be in a strong enough condition to undergo surgery. She is currently on a number of medications as well as a special home cooked diet. Her feet are improving and she is able to walk without the pain she was enduring before her treatment began. Brandi has kept up her sweet personality throughout and we are hoping she will be more comfortable very soon.

11/16 UPDATE:  After 3 months of exams, testing and treatment by a veterinary dermatologist, Brandi now appears to be on the road to recovery.  The cause of her chronic ear and skin infections, generalized inflammation and intense itching is an allergy to mold, weeds, and cats.  She may also have food allergies and that determination will be made soon.  Brandi will shortly begin receiving allergy shots.  She is already a lot more comfortable since she's been on a careful regimen of antibiotics, topical medications and weekly baths.  Since September, the cost of her on-going treatment with the veterinary dermatologist is $1,162.40

UPDATE  March 30, 2006

Brandi's allergies went undiagnosed and untreated for so long that chronic inflammation and infection caused serious narrowing and calcification of her ear canals and damage to the middle ear.  Consequently, Brandi recently had to have bilateral ear ablation surgery.  Her foster Mom reports that she's a real trooper and feeling much better.  Brandi's very expensive surgery has nearly depleted CSRNE's Joey Fund.  All donations we receive to help pay for Brandi's surgery will go to replenish this fund so that we can be there to help the next badly neglected cocker who will need expensive veterinary care.  The total cost of Brandi's ear surgery was $2,346.53.
