This 4 ˝ year old boy has received a five star rating from both
the animal control officer who picked him up and his foster mom
who says ”He is wonderful with people.” Lucky just loves to be
outside in a big front yard – he is very interested in the
squirrels and birds at the feeder and probably would not do well
in a home with kitties. He is fine with the other quieter
cocker who lives with him now and he very much enjoyed playing
with a rambunctious collie pup when he was at the groomer. This
handsome boy has a shiny black coat. He is housebroken and has
good house manners.
Update - July 8, 2008:
Lucky’s foster
mom reported that he needed to learn how to ride in a car
without barking at passing vehicles. Paul Emerson, Senior
Instructor and Behavior Consultant with Gemini Dogs, has been
very helpful to CSRNE in the past when one of our rescue cockers
has had a specific behavior problem so we asked Paul to meet
Lucky at his foster home and help us teach Lucky how to ride
nicely in a car.
Paul was impressed with Lucky’s outgoing,
friendly temperament and how responsive to a new person doing
new things with him.
Paul’s approach was to fit Lucky with a
bandana and Calming Cap both sprayed with DAP (Dog Appeasing
Pheromone). The cap is nylon mesh and reduces the dog’s
visibility without acting as a blindfold. Paul also recommended
using a dog seat belt. The initial ride was short but successful
– Lucky didn’t bark. As Lucky becomes more accustomed to riding
quietly, the use of the Calming Cap can be decreased. Paul
recommended using the seat belt, DAP, and his own mat whenever
Lucky rides in a car.
Paul thought Lucky was a great cocker and
offered to provide a free follow up consult to Lucky’s new
adopters.
