UPDATE - 5/18/08:
Well, spring has sprung and Oreo is once again plagued by his
allergies. His skin has had a flare-up and he is on medication
to help with the itching. We had gone back to the once weekly
baths in the hopes of avoiding more medications but it was not
enough. His eyes and ears though, are doing very well! He just
loves being groomed so the weekly baths are actually a treat for
this little guy. He will stand on the grooming table to be blown
dry & brushed and look down on the other dogs as if to say "Ha
Ha! Look at me!" He is such a good natured boy that he will
share the grooming table and his bed with the cat! He
thoroughly enjoys the companionship of other dogs. Big or
small, he likes them all!
UPDATE - 3/19/08:
We are very happy to report that Oreo is doing exceptionally
well! He is now on an "over the counter" dog food and his skin
is doing quite well. He is down to every other week medicated
baths and we are now trying his baths once a month and he is
doing great. His ear cleaning is done weekly as debris does
build up. He is a great little guy that gets along well with
other dogs and cats. He is housebroken and crate trained and
has a low to moderate activity level.
We would like to see Oreo adopted to a family who has an
older settled dog to keep him company. He likes companionship
and the sense of security that it gives. He also likes kitty
companions as well! He is playful but by nature is quiet and
happy. Because of this, we would like to see him in a home
without a lot of comings and goings. He is a cute little guy
that deserves a loving home of his own.
When Oreo came to CSRNE, he had
terrible skin, ear and eye problems and after much testing, it
was discovered that he suffered from severe allergies. He is on
medications as well as a special diet but still has flare ups,
especially in the Spring, Summer and Fall. He is currently
receiving 2 medicated baths weekly, daily eye and ear
medications and is on oral medications to help with the
inflammation of his skin and the severe itching that this poor
little dog suffers from. He has both food and airborne allergies
and we are working hard to narrow down a protocol that makes his
life more comfortable.
