YOU CAN BE A VIRTUAL ADOPTER!

Sponsor a Special-Needs Cocker of Your Very Own

In Loving Memory of MurphyCSRNE is currently caring for a record number of cockers - 15 to be exact. This includes  special-needs cockers who are older, have chronic medical problems, are blind or deaf, or have been traumatized by past abuse and neglect. Many of these cockers have been with us a long time and will likely never be adopted. For these dogs, CSRNE provides a lifetime haven through its Permanent Foster Care Program.

A few live in foster homes while most are housed in small, family-owned boarding kennels or "group homes" where they receive lots of attention, exercise, specialized care for their medical needs, and training. They are cuddled, loved, and walked and have lots of toys and their own soft bed. We would love to see every rescue dog in his very own home but this is a good alternative for hard-to-adopt cockers.

This is however a very expensive program for CSRNE. The cost of special diets, medications, veterinary care, grooming, heartworm and flea preventatives plus the daily kenneling charge for the 15 cockers in the program is over $8,000 every month. Like many other nonprofits, CSRNE has felt the impact of a slow economy and significant job loss in New England. This combined with the continued over breeding of cocker spaniels has put CSRNE in a difficult financial situation.

We desperately need your help to continue this program for special-needs cockers and hope you will sign up to be a Virtual Adopter. By sponsoring one or more, you will help to greatly offset ongoing monthly expenses. Every dollar you pledge to sponsor one of these cockers will go to the direct care of your special dog.

What will you receive in return? An emailed (or mailed) photo, description of your dog's history and current needs, and periodic updates of your cocker's progress. Most important, you will have the satisfaction of helping a dog who, despite being old or blind or traumatized by past abuse, still has worth and deserves a chance to live in contentment with those who care about his well-being.

We hope you will become a Virtual Adopter for one or more of the following cockers. All need daily medications and many are on special diets. Because of their health problems, few are likely to ever be adopted:

Virtual donors will be acknowledged

Bledsoe is a 9 year old neutered parti-color male that acts like he is 9 months old! He is full of vitality and loves life. Bledsoe had a very tough start to life, coming from a backyard breeder and crated 24 hours a day. He was crated with another dog and it appears that there was a vicious fight over food and Bledsoe lost half of his left ear. Since that time, he cannot have another dog around while eating his breakfast or dinner as he guards it with his life.   Read More...

Sparky was a stray found wandering in the bitter cold. He was matted to the skin; his toe nails were over an inch long; he had scabbing crusty patches on his tummy and an ear infection of course. But despite his very neglected condition he was immediately playful with his new toys and he thoroughly enjoyed his first bath in many months. Sparky's foster mom says he such a good boy! This approx. 7-8 year old boy really listens to people.   Read More...

Suzie Q is 5 years old and has had a tough start to life. She is very fearful of strangers and takes a while to warm up. She is not reliably housebroken, after over a year in specialized care, and we can only assume this may have something to do with the trauma that she suffered prior to coming into CSRNE's care.   Read More...

When Oreo came to CSRNE, he had terrible skin, ear and eye problems and after much testing, it was discovered that he suffered from severe allergies. He is on medications as well as a special diet but still has flare ups, especially in the Spring, Summer and Fall. He is currently receiving 2 medicated baths weekly, daily eye and ear medications and is on oral medications to help with the inflammation of his skin and the severe itching that this poor little dog suffers from. He has both food and airborne allergies and we are working hard to narrow down a protocol that makes his life more comfortable. Read More - Updated 3/19/08

Honey Bunz - 2006 Joey Fund Poster Dog - has made some progress with trust but is still not trusting of people. The severe beatings that she endured have left her with neurological deficits. She has a partial facial droop, an eye twitch and still walks with a hunched back. Her rear leg turns in and she has a club foot. Honey has been so traumatized that her initial reaction to new people is to fear for her life. Her caregiver is the only person who has been able to groom her. Read More...
